"A Straw Hat Young Woman Map NYC" Corel

A Straw Hat Young Woman Map NYC

I got this photograph of the Young Woman in a Straw Hat from StockVault. I am uncertain where I got the Vintage NYC Map from, it may have been Dover Publications.

I opened the Young Woman using the Organizer in Corel PSP Pro X3. The EXIF data says it is an iPhone photograph, It was somewhat washed out, but otherwise had nice detail. I ran it through the Threshold tool and made it black and white, I adjusted the image to show enough of the nose and straw hat as possible. It resulted in some full black space, which I liked. I used the NYC Map, from my Dover Samplers Folder, as a layer and had to do a few things to it. I had to enlarge it, to fit, using Curves I gave some more depth to the colors. After I merged those layers to one I added my white signature.

I also used the Saturation Vibrancy to boost the colors of the Map. I merged the Map using the property Darken instead of Lighten, which placed it in the white space of the image. I added a 25 pixel border in black to make the top of the image fit better. I used Image Information to add Title, Copyright, Programs used, etc. Saving the Large iteration I resized for display to 1200 x 1200 pixels.

As always, please click on the image for the larger view. Comments are always welcome! "Dancers" Digital Collage - Corel PhotoPaint - Corel PSP Pro X3

Dancers

I took some time to browse in Picasa 3.9 in my Dover Publications and Free Vintage Clip Art folder. I have over 1,000 pieces of art in the folder and it took some time for inspiration to hit me.

I found the pieces you see in today's image. A floral like background, a woman and man's faces and the dancers silhouette. I opened the floral in Corel PSP Pro X3 and resized it to a 10 x 5.8 inches 300dpi background. I then saved that and opened in Corel's PhotoPaint. There, and from Picasa, I copied and pasted and erased around the faces, placing them opposite each other.

I searched for the "Dancers," silhouette and copied and pasted that and used the property Multiply, then resized to make them the centerpiece in the image. I merged all, used the Tone Curve and upped the color saturation, and added my signature, Then saved the large file, resampled it for display and saved that. I looked at the enlargement in Picasa 3.9

I decided to use Picasa 3.9's Museum Mat for a frame, I applied that, adjusted the mat color to blue and saved that file separately.

It was a simple Digital Collage project with pleasant results.

Another Straw Hat and Dress Shoes - Paint.NET - Painter 11 - Watercolors

I had taken so many photographs of the Hat and Dress Shoes that I decided to do another image based on this photograph. I prepped the photograph in Paint.NET as you can see by the first image. I used the Pencil Sketch filter and upped the pencil size and range this gave me a grayscale image in RGB. I took it one step further and applied the Ink sketch filter for additional detail and line.

I took that image into Painter 11 and selected the Splashing Watercolor brush Smooth Wash, which acted almost like a tinting brush. I applied the differing colors from the basic color palette, leaving a subtle watercolor look and feel.

Straw Hat Dress Shoes - Paint.NET - PhotoPaint - Painter 11

At the bookstore I was browsing Painter books and other Digital Photography books. I found a really nice image of a shoe, very painterly and with much depth. I was inspired to Photograph my old Straw hat and some dress shoes.

I used various techniques on them, but certain steps I took with each one of them. In Paint.NET I used the Ink Sketch filter and the Kuwahara Modified filter on most of these photographs.

In PhotoPaint I added frames using Filter Forge. I wanted a look and feel of depth and a certain amount of detail in each image. I took more photographs but I have yet to browse those more closely to continue this motif.
