See shopping cart to your right ->

I've finally done it I have placed one of my Original Songs up for sale on CDBaby.com! Please see the shopping cart on the right hand side of this post.

I am quite excited to offer this song for sale. It is an intimate tune for those that are in a relationship without any secrets. It was once said that this song "has a honest quality to it." It isn't easy to be this open in any relationship, but communication is one of the most important parts of one.

Please consider buying this song. I am very proud to offer it as my First Single on CDBaby!

I thought that you might want to read the lyrics:

Open Secret ©2014 Kirk Mathew Gatzka

It's an open secret
It's a big idea
Nobody knows it better
Than you

It's an open secret
That I'm trying to endure
Nobody knows it better
Than you

Time to see clearly
When I'm being obscure
That you can freely
Read me

Something's are well known
Everything is not
But what's to disown
When nothin' is what you got

I've got to grow up
Time to take on what's tough
Even though I know it's rough
I think I've had enough

It's an open secret
It's a big idea
Nobody knows it better
Than you

It's an open secret
That I'm trying to endure
Nobody knows it better
Than you

It's an open secret
It's an open secret
It's an open secret
It's an open secret
It's an open secret

My Wife as a Child on a Carousel

This is the photograph of my Wife that inspired the song "Lil' Miss Lillian Decides."   ©2010 by Kirk Mathew Gatzka.

Here are the Chords and Lyrics, the link is to the song on SoundCloud:

Round and Round, Its been said

Up and down, No one's ahead
Am   D7
The Carousel rides
Am   D7
You are alongside
     G
of me.

G      Em      Am7    D
Light from the stereo
G      Em      Am7    D
Radio in my eyes
G      Em      Am7    D
Tearing up to cry
G      Em      Am7    D
Watching the video
G      Em      Am7    D
Black background lies dark
G      Em      Am7    D
Colors vibrant radiate
G      Em      Am7    D
Music loud plays its part
G      Em      Am7    D
Like it did in the Park

Am   D7
Lil' Miss Lillian decides
Am   D7
Over on the East side
Am   D7
Round and Round, Its been said
Am   D7
Up and down, No one's ahead
Am   D7
The Carousel rides
Am   D7
You are alongside
     G
of me.

G      Em      Am7    D
Storms from television
G      Em      Am7    D
Lightning for the lost
G      Em      Am7    D
Thunder, loss of vision
G      Em      Am7    D
Who cares what it costs
G      Em      Am7    D
Blazing seconds bright
G      Em      Am7    D
To return to black and blue
G      Em      Am7    D
When it is going to?
G      Em      Am7    D
Where is it? There's no clue.

Am   D7
Lil' Miss Lillian decides
Am   D7
Over on the East side
Am   D7
Round and Round, Its been said
Am   D7
Up and down, No one's ahead
Am   D7
The Carousel rides
Am   D7
You are alongside
     G
of me.
G      Em      Am7    D repeat end on G

I used Corel PSP Pro X3 for this rendition of the photograph. I applied the Infrared tool and then the Time Machine Daguerreotype tool. I did not know my Wife at this time we met in 1970 and have been together through many difficult times, but our relationship has survived! I have a photograph of us on the About Page from the 70's if you want to take a look.

Have a listen to the song and enjoy the image.

"Grunge Electric Guitar" Corel Painter Photo Essentials 4 - Plus

Grunge Electric Guitar

I opened Picasa 3.9 and browsed my guitar photographs, I selected this Electric Guitar and created a Grunge look and feel to the image. I opened with Corel PhotoPaint and resampled to 150dpi and applied the Local Equalization tool. This made the light background almost all white with some areas of color left over.

I used the Wand tool and created a mask covering the guitar. Then I used the Fill tool to make a gradient background of blues. I saved this file, then opened with Corel Painter Photo Essentials 4.

I auto-painted using the Chalk features as a small Hatch brush. Then added the Pastels feature with a coarse background paper texture. Then I used the Simple watercolor auto-paint. I stopped that after it left the fine lines in the Guitar body.

I saved that file, then realized I wanted some more Texture to the image. I Opened with Corel Painter 11 and used Apply Surface Texture Luminance. I saved that iteration.

To finish off the image I opened with Corel PSP Pro X3 and added my signature using the Image, Visible Watermark to the Lower-right. I also added a blue border of 25 pixels. I then used the Image, Picture Frame using the same setting twice for a double painted square. I also added the small Black frame using Picture Frame.

I saved that file then resized for display for today.

Musically, I have been using Steve Krenz' Pentatonic scales for C Major or A minor to play some blues riffs (lead) along with a track of Blues in A I found on YouTube. I have a plethora of Electric guitar styles with the Gearbox software using the Toneport UX1 from Line 6. So I kept sampling differing lead riff sounds, just having a ball playing.

"Lil' Miss Lillian Decides" Video - Logitech - Audio - Line 6 Toneport UX1

This song was inspired by a Black and White Photograph of my wife as a child on a Carousel. Probably circa early 1950's, she was riding by herself, but I include in the song that, "I'm alongside, of you." "Lil' Miss Lillian Decides," is ©2010 Kirk Mathew Gatzka, All Rights Reserved.

"Self Portrait Recording" Logitech C260 - Corel PhotoPaint - Corel PSP Pro X3

Recording

I've spent the last couple of days working on recording video and audio. I have a Logitech C260 Webcam that takes fairly good video, though it is not HD (high definition.) I also wanted to record music so I selected for the microphone my Line 6 Toneport UX1 with Gearbox software. I used a "Detroit RnB Vocal," setting for the audio. The microphone is a Shure PG58.

I experimented with a number of programs like Windows Movie Maker, Logitech's own simple interfaced recorder and Pinnacle Studio 12, and got various results.

Both Movie Maker and Pinnacle resulted in syncing problems with the video and audio being out of sync with each other. I have an older PC with Win XP SP3 and the best combination was Logitech's software with the Toneport set as microphone. Probably worked best with my limited 2.5gig RAM.

The "Self-Portrait," you see is a still from my recording sessions. As I was playing back my video I took the still in Logitech's program. I opened with Corel PhotoPaint and used the Local Equalization and a slight bit of Tone Curve for a High Contrast look. Using Filter Forge's Photo Effect Vibrance enhanced the colors, and Frames for a film frame. I saved the 640x480 image and opened with Corel PSP Pro X3.

There I Softened the image, and resized it to 180dpi 1220 wide. Saving that for display here.

For the video I improvised a Blues tune on my 12-String Seagull Guitar and sang some nonsense lyrics that came out: "My Baby Don't Love Me." I placed it on my YouTube Channel also entitled "gatzkART!"

I have a look on my face of concentration, working out the kinks of recording a live video for the first time. So I won't win any contest for most jovial performer with this one!
