"Daisies And Railing" Corel

Daisies And Railing

I began this image with an older photograph of "Daisies and our Porch Railing," outside our home. I opened it in Corel Painter Photo Essentials 4 and used the Gouache setting with a Camel Brush. I digitally painted it there.

Saving the large iteration I opened in Corel PhotoPaint. Here I adjusted the Tone Curve for depth to the color. I resampled the image to display size. I then added my name and date, as my digital signature is on my main Desktop Computer and I am working on our Laptop.

I saved that smaller file to a new folder for 2015 Artworks.

It is quiet here in the North country and I am listening to chimes lightly ringing and mostly minor electric sounds. It is restful here, and I am happy to be away for a little while. We all need some time like this to relax and enjoy blue sky and warmer weather Michigan style.

"Beard and Cowboy Hat" Corel Painter

Beard and Cowboy Hat

I chose this photograph of a Mans Portrait with a "Beard and Cowboy Hat." I thought that it would be a challenge to paint digitally. It was a color photograph I opened it in Corel PSP Pro X3 and converted it to grayscale.

Saving that I opened in Corel Painter Photo Essentials 4 and used the Watercolor Sketch with a Dry Brush. I saved that iteration and opened in Corel Painter 11.

I used Digital Watercolor Brushes, Chalk, Crayon, Gouache as well. Using my Wacom tablet, I painted it selecting flesh toned colors and browns for the hat and shirt with black and purple for the leather jacket.

"Pen and Ink Watercolor Distressed Man" Corel Painter

Painting of Pen and Ink Watercolor Distressed Man

As it takes CDBaby 24-48 hours to release a single for publication as I am waiting for the "ready," signal from them for "Reckoning." I decided to take the image I used to announce my new song and Digitally Paint it in Corel Painter 11.

I opened the Pen and Ink image in Painter and selected the Digital Watercolors Broad Brushstroke to begin painting. I did the brick and windows background first with a light brown. I then selected some Flesh tone colors for the face and hand. I mixed some grays with the flesh tones for the hair.

I painted the 'STOP,' sign red and added some red tones throughout the piece. I now switched to a Gouache Brush to paint on the black hoodie he is wearing. I used a light enough blue to show the brush strokes. I added a touch of blue to the rest of the piece to consolidate my color scheme.

I saved the Painting and opened with Corel PSP Pro X3 to adjust it a bit. Increased the Saturation with Vibrancy and Brightened the overall image.

I am anxiously awaiting the go-ahead from CDBaby so I can give to you my new song in the series of "Blind Guide," "Collision Warning," and NEXT: "Reckoning." I will again allow listening to the Full Song in Preview mode for you to consider. Watch for it!

I have another tune coming soon, it is very upbeat, I have a back catalog of tunes, not all of them good enough to share as a purchasable copy. So after the series I especially chose the next one. It is a positive and uplifting song lyrically and I can't wait to share it with you.

"Gouache Painted Young Woman with Texture" Corel

Gouache Painted Young Woman with Texture

Using another Woman Portrait from MorgueFile, I opened it in Corel Painter Photo Essentials 4. There I selected the Gouache style of painting with Sandy Paper, Light Color, a Tapered Brush with 360 random rotation movement. I allowed the image to Auto Paint til I was satisfied with the image and stopped it. I saved that large iteration.

I opened Corel PSP Pro X3 and added a Textured layer from StockVault's Free Textures. I adjusted the Opacity of that rusted paint layer. I then copied the Woman's Portrait to the clipboard and pasted it as a layer upon the Texture. I resized the face to fit and cropped the merged layers to focus on the face. I saved that file as well.

In Corel PhotoPaint I added my signature in black, saving again and reopening in PSP Pro X3. There I added a black border to the image, saved, and resized for display here. I had also added a Title, Copyright, Programs used, and Resources to the EXIF information.

I did not mention it earlier but in Essentials 4 I used the soft clone brush to add back some of the mouth, nose and eyes for greater details.

"Grunge Gibson Acoustic Guitar" Corel PhotoPaint - Plus

Grunge Gibson Acoustic Guitar

Browsing with Picasa 3.9 I came across this photograph of a "Gibson Acoustic Guitar." I opened with Corel PhotoPaint and applied the Local Equalization to it and adjusted the Tone Curve. Saving that file, I opened with Corel Painter Photo Essentials 4 and auto painted it with the Gouache feature. Selecting Random brushstrokes, Hatch, set at 45%, the auto painting gave a very sketchy look and feel.

I then selected the Pen and Ink and added the hatching and line work by hand. I saved that file and reopened with Corel PSP Pro X3. There I used the Hue and Saturation Vibrancy to brighten the colors. I added my signature using the Visible Watermark feature. I added a Polaroid frame and then a Thin Black frame to finish it.

"Return to Grunge Guitars 2" CorelTRACE - CorelDRAW - Plus

"Return to Grunge Guitars 2"

"Return to Grunge Guitars 2" began as a photograph of our two guitars. I opened in Corel PhotoPaint and rotated the photograph to portrait. I cropped it slightly and saved the large file.

I opened CorelTRACE and turned the piece into a grayscale photograph and traced the Outlines. I saved the image to a Traced folder. I opened CorelDRAW and selected this image.

In DRAW I Ungrouped all the traced parts into individual pieces. I then selected some basic colors for the majority of them. Red, blue, cyan and yellow. I then regrouped all the pieces to one image. I copied that to the clipboard.

I pasted that into Corel PhotoPaint with a height of 2500 pixels at 300 dpi. I used the Adjust, Local Equalization and the Tone Curve for differing depth of colors. I then applied Filter Forge's Photo Effects Grunge, trying different variations, under Settings, til I found one I liked. I saved that large file.

I next opened the image with Corel Painter Photo Essentials 4. I tried a couple of auto painting styles and finally settled on Gouache with the programs settings. Auto Painting the piece gave it more character, brushstrokes, and some abstraction. I saved that iteration.

I opened with Corel PSP Pro X3 and added my signature using Image, Visible Watermark, Lower-left corner. I added a 25 pixel black Border and saved that. I then resized for display saving my final iteration.

"Trio of Pretties" Corel Painter Photo Essentials 4 - Corel PhotoPaint

Pink Lips

Red Hair

Brunette

Today I used Corel's Painter Photo Essentials 4 to create some images from three pretty ladies. I browsed in Picasa 3.9 to the faces folder and selected these. I opened with Painter Photo Essentials 4. There I applied the Auto Painting Gouache with High contrast color settings.

I then, with the finished image, I applied the Watercolor Sketch Auto Painting with saturated color over top the Gouache paintings on each. I saved each one in succession. I then used Corel PhotoPaint to add some sparkle to the eyes and add my signature. I saved the larger files then resampled for display here.

"Venice" An Exercise in Painting with Painter 11

Venice

I have this book about "How to Paint Buildings" by Manel Plana Sicilia and Muntsa Calbo Angrill, that I've had for years. Today I decided to make an attempt to paint using Corel's Painter 11 from it. I found a print of one of the book's paintings and did my best to imitate it. I used Gouache Painter 11 brushes and a Wet Grain Blender brush, along with an Liquid Ink brush for color and line.

It was an interesting endeavor as digital painting is undoable if you make any mistakes. I finished the large painting and saved it opening with PhotoPaint. There I added my signature and applied the Tone Curve to boost color depth. I saved that iteration and opened it with Corel's PSP Pro X3 and using the frames they have in that program I added a mat and golden frame. Saving again I then resized the image for display here.

Digital Painting with Corel Products - Gouache Painting

Dodge Truck

Forest Road

Tree in Forest

I wanted to do a few more Digital Paintings in Corel Painter Photo Essentials 4 as I haven't exhausted the auto painting prospects of this program. So I browsed my photographs in Picasa 3 and discovered these three.

The first one of the Dodge Truck rusting away in the brush I applied the Gouache Painting with Intense color, no texturing. The second Forest Road I also used the Gouache Painting but this time with High Contrast color which gave me the deep rich color. I also applied the Surface Texture Image Luminance to the image.

The final Tree in Forest, another with Gouache Painting, High Contrast, Image Luminance texture and a slight boost of the saturation.

I finalized the images in Corel PhotoPaint adding my signature to the large files, resampling for display here and saving them as large and medium sizes.

Ren Cen Knight Ink Print - Gouache - Watercolor - Painter 11 - PhotoPaint

Here is an Ink Print of a Renaissance type Knight from my Dover Publications samplers. I selected this from the same group the Troubadours, came from.

I opened it in PhotoPaint and resampled it to 96dpi to enlarge it for painting. Saving that file I opened with Painter 11 and selected a Gouache brush to begin on the horse. I switched to Karen's Watercolors and changed the opacity of the brush and used varying sizes to paint the rest of the piece.

Lots of detail in this ink print so it took some time to finish, but I enjoyed every minute. I saved the file of the painted horse and it's rider and reopened in PhotoPaint. There I used the wand tool to create a mask, masking out the Knight and horse and ground. I selected a picture from the Hubble Space Telescope for the fill. It placed the star, quite by accident on the knuckle of the fore leg of the horse. Which gives it some pizazz.
